Dr. Sean L. Davenport is the Superintendent of Harlem Community School District 5, where he leads with a bold commitment to equity, innovation, and excellence. With over 25 years of experience in public education, Dr. Davenport has served as a teacher, principal, leadership development coach, and now district leader. At every level, his work has focused on expanding access, dismantling structural inequities, and designing culturally responsive systems that support student success and staff sustainability.
A Google Education Fellow, Dr. Davenport is at the forefront of integrating AI and emerging technologies into school leadership and instructional practice. He created the MECCA framework—Mindfulness, Excellence, Capacity Building, Collaboration, and Action—to guide principals and school teams in building inclusive, high-performing learning communities. His approach is grounded in real-world practice, responsive leadership, and the belief that equity is not a program but a principle that must live in every decision.
Dr. Davenport holds a Doctorate in Executive Leadership and advanced degrees in both Communications and Education. He is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, and Boyer Lodge No. 1, Prince Hall Masons of the State of New York. In addition to mentoring aspiring leaders, he continues to advocate for policies and practices that center the voices and needs of historically underserved communities.
